Uber den Künstler

Martijn Hesseling (1971, Ede), full name Martijn Leendert Hesseling, is a Dutch visual artist, photographer, and collagist, who lives and works in Amsterdam (active since 1996). From 1991 to 1996, he studied painting at the AKI, Akademie voor Kunst en Industrie (Academy of Art and Industry) in Enschede. From 1995 to 1997, he completed a Master’s program at the Dutch Art Institute in Enschede. During his study, he experimented with various materials and by now newspapers and books replace paint in his works.

The paper, treated with a lacquer layer, becomes transparent by this coating, which creates the illusion of depth. Hesseling creates collages with these materials. His work is included in the collections of numerous firms, companies and enterprises, such as Deutsche Bank London, Leaseplan, Dresdner Bank, Akzo Nobel, Philips, American Express and Mitsubishi.
