Ary Jean Léon Bitter (Marseille 1883-1973), sculptor, was already successful as a student at the Art Academy and won several prizes. In 1902 he received a scholarship from the city of Marseille and became a pupil of Louis-Ernest Barrias in Paris. In 1906 he was admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts.

He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes from 1912 to 1939, where he also regularly wins prizes, in 1924 he also wins the gold medal, in 1937 he also wins the gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris.

In 1925 he comes under contract with Susse Frères, he made several limited editions for Susse Frès.

In addition to his smaller works, he also made several fountains, monuments and the sculpture 'Lion et enfant' for Gare Saint-Charles in Marseille.

His oeuvre can be admired in various museums, including: Musée Cantini in Marseille. Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville Paris.
